Handmade Dog Portraits From a Photo

Aug 21, 2018

FREEZE! Hold that moment, those eyes that melt your heart, in your mind forever! Have you ever wanted to do something special with a snapshot or even cell phone photo of your favorite furry face (before it gets accidentally deleted or lost forever in the masses)? Maybe it’s a special story behind that snap you took, or just your favorite picture of your heart dog. This past week these handmade dog portraits from a photo were created with sunshine, metal, ink and an old-fashioned printing press to celebrate some good times and also remember a few special buddies.

A HANDMADE DOG PORTRAIT TO CELEBRATE LIFE

First up is Choco. Choco’s family received an Urgent Care grant from RedRover earlier this year to pay for emergency veterinary care. He had eaten a toy and his stomach was obstructed, which could be fatal if not addressed immediately. An On-Call Angel made the generous donation that made Choco’s lifesaving surgery possible. He looks pretty happy, doesn’t he!?

A HANDMADE DOG PORTRAIT TO REMEMBER A LIFE

Duke, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who was a rescue from Cavalier Alliance graced this planet for only 5 short years, but will remain very special in his mom’s memories. She now has this custom dog portrait to remember him by. She had emailed me a couple photos from her cell phone and this was the one that would make the best etching. It was crafted with care.

A HANDMADE DOG PORTRAIT TO CELEBRATE FUNNY MOMENTS

Mr. B, her current doggie companion, also a rescue from Cavalier Alliance, is her old guy she likes to spoil. He is sitting in his mom’s office chair here with a silly look on his face, as he usually isn’t allowed in this spot. Who can say no to that face, though? I know I couldn’t! 🙂

A HANDMADE DOG PORTRAIT TO SERVE AS A MEMORIAL

Last, but definitely not least, is Cocoa Sweet! I actually knew Cocoa and was so honored when his mom asked me to create a handcrafted etching of their Cocoa. Because we had chosen this picture with the pumpkin as the best for their etching, I asked her if she’d like me to hand color the pumpkin a bit. Mom did want it colored. I also added a touch of brown to Cocoa as well as just a teeny bit of green to the grass.

She sent me a photo of where they were going to frame and place Cocoa’s etching in their living room. Mom chose a dark brown frame and set a candle next to her artwork of her sweet boy. “What a tribute to him…This will help the grieving process by having his precious photo were we can see it all the time. You did a beautiful job.”

HEART DOG, FAMILY DOG, SOULMATE…

these are the faces to celebrate today and remember later with a unique fine art etching!
